I also found this from 2004 , which lists LEO Organizations supporting a "Brady Campaign Petition" to re-new the AWB. I would include a link but I have no desire to perpetuate the petition since it was republished on 1 Oct. 2007.
"On September 13, the Federal Ban on Assault Weapons will expire. Law Enforcement organizations, associations and labor unions support the re-authorization of this very important crime control and officer safety legislation.
The organizations supporting the ban on military style assault weapons include: The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCCA), The Fraternal Order of Police, National Lodge (FOP), National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO), Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), International Brotherhood of Police Officers (IBPO), National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), Hispanic American Police Command Officers Association (HAPCOA), National Black Police Association (NPBA) and others at the national, state and local levels.
Join us in telling Congress and the President that law enforcement professionals across America support the re-authorization of the Assault Weapons Ban.
Without the re-authorization of the Assault Weapons Ban military style assault weapons such as AK-47s, Uzis and TEC-9 Assault pistols will once again be available for sale at gun stores throughout America. Additionally, high capacity magazines capable of holding as many as 50 to 100 rounds of ammunition will be available for immediate distribution come September 14th, 2004. This combination of high-powered assault weapons and high capacity magazines puts our communities at great risk and directly threatens the lives of law enforcement officials.
Please contact former Texas Peace Officer XXXXXXXX in our Law Enforcement Relations department at XXX XXX XXXX Had a DC Prefix) or via e-mail at (bradymail??.org) to find out more about law enforcement activities and support for this very important legislation."
