Shipping a Handgun

capnrmcapnrm Member Posts: 43 ✭✭
Hello,

I was wondering if it is legal for me to ship a handgun back to the Manufacturer for work to be done. UPS says it's not legal. All the FFL's want $50.00 fee to ship. Can anyone help ?

Thanks

I would e-mail the manufacturer and ask them.

You may ship a handgun by common carrier if it is shipped to be repaired, is shipped to an FFL or licensed recipiant and you notify the carrier it is a firearm you are shipping. You may not ship a handgun by USPS under any circumstances if you are not a holder of an FFL. trapper

I shipped a model 27-2 back to S&W for work on the plating. They told me where to ship it and how to pack it. Specifically with no ammo in or with it. I have a FEDEX account and shipped it, no muss no fuss. When the work was done, it was returned directly to me, UPS signature required.

In Joplin, MO UPS refuses to take a handgun going to an FFL. I had the dizzy broad in the hub customer service office tell me it could only be shipped to the manufacturer for alteration according to UPS policy. What do you do when employees lie through their teeth?

Gars- go to the website for UPS, search shipping firearms (and yeah, the manufacturer IS a FFL holder) Find the section, PRINT IT, and take it with you. When encountering an employee that does not know their own tarriffs for shipping, smile, and say the magic words. They are "May I please speak to your supervisor- now." No yelling, no cussing, no reference to IQ or ancestry (Its OK to think those things, tho) Speak to the super, explain the problem, show him their own rules. Should fix the problem. Will need to ship next day air, so is pricy, and maybe MUCH cheaper to pay a local 01 FFL to send for you- they can use priority mail.
