I am curious as to what is the law for carrying guns in your vehicle for the state of Louisiana?

A vehicle is by La State law considered an extension of your household. You may put a loaded firearm anywhere, it don't matter where.

If it were me I would be extremely polite to the officer and if you are indeed legal in your state I would advise the officer that I had a loaded firearm in the vehicle. That being said, I live in the socialist state of Illinois where this is definately not legal. I can and do carry a cased and unloaded pistol with a lodaded magazine next to in in the door pouch of my pickup. This is legal in Illinois as long as the gun is cased and unloaded. The Illinois Department of Conservation book on hunting regulations that spells out this rule in with the gun and clip. In Illinois I would never advise an officer of the firearm. If I were ever asked by any officer to look into or search my vehicle, gun or no gun, I would tell him fine but that my attorney has advised me to call him on my cell phone and let the officer talk to him first. This has never came up yet but this is my plan and I am sticking to it.

    Beeramid is 100% correct.
I would tell the officer about the gun.

First time I was ever stopped with one in my vehicle I told the officer, he said it was of no concern to him.

Second time officer asked me if I had a permit for my pistol because it was visible, right there by my side. I replied askin if he had a permit for his. He looked a bit suprised until I he saw my ID and then away I went.[}:)]

You can have it loaded anywhere in your vehicle except touching you, ie sitting on it. That would be considered concealed on your person under LA law, which does require a permit. Anything else is legal, but you should advise the officer. Also FYI, in LA it is also perfectly legal to carry a gun in a belt holster, or other visible holster. Visible being the key word. However, this is not wise due to the attention that would be drawn. Also this would cause others including PO's to be nervous, which we all know is not good. Don't be an "accident".

I always inform the officer of the fact that a handgun is in the car and I make sure both hands are out the window with my handgun on the dash in plain view. I have found that if they know ahead and they see your hands out of the window they are pretty nice about it. I am also super polite and never get an attitude with them.

I got pulled over twice in Mississippi in March, both by state patrol. I always turn my truck off, and have both hands out the window when officers approach.
1)I informed him I was armed. He made me exit the truck, asked where the weapon was at, at took my p7 out of the holster back to his car, telling me to return to my truck. After writing me the ticket, he handed my gun back to me, and told me to have a nice day. This officer was black.

2)Second officer two weeks later pulls me over, I inform him I am carrying, and his hand automatically went to his sidearm. He yelled at me not to make any sudden moves or he would blow my damned fool head off. He did not disarm me, but his attitude was unreal. He returned to hand me my ticket, and had his hand on his gun the whole time. This was a short white cop.

While I did not agree with either one of their approaches, I must say the black officer was a lot more cordial, and proffessional in his dealing with me. I can say it is weird to have a police officer disarm you on the side of the road with cars passing by. It must have been a helluva sight
