223 key holing

I have DPMS 223 shoots great with factory amo.BBL is 1 in 9 twist when I shoot sub sonic [1125] amo I get key holes @100 yd.fine at@50YD.Do i need a different twist?,are what.

    Low velocity is the problem. Bullet velocity directly affects the spin rate, and therefore stability.

    Unless you are using a suppressor, there's no earthly reason to shoot sub-sonic ammo.

    Look at the bullet weight of your ammo. More than likely on the heavy end; you might get acceptabe results with the lighter end weight bullets.

    That's why a certain twist rate will handle heavier bullets with a bigger case(more velocity).
