Help. ,348 Winchester w/ FTX bullets

my-handymanmy-handyman Member Posts: 297 ✭✭
I'm trying to reload some 348 Winchester shells with the new Hornady 200gr FTX bullets, but I can't find any info on the type of powder and amount of powder to use for a good hunting load. Has any body tried these new bullets? I also have some new/old 250gr Winchester silver tips that I need powder info for.
Thanks for any and all info for this fine old cartridge!

Sir: Thanks for the info! I had seen it but was looking for a load for the FTX. Can I use the same amount powder charge and then get that speed (or very close) that is posted for any 200gr? I thought that each style bullet needed a different charge? I,m new to this but have a guy that will help with the die set-up and loading.
    thanks Again!!

You can run into trouble with bullets of different construction and length of bearing area, but I think you will fine using the starting and working up for either of bullets you have listed with the data listed. The crimp grove should function fine for overall length as there aren't a lot of different 348's to load for other than a 71.

The FTX has a BC of .320 vs their other 200 gr flat nose of .246.

You could e-mail or call Hornady and ask, maybe they found a sweet load. I'd be looking a H4350 for my start.

I talked to Hornady today, and they said they have no info for loading their .348 FTX bullets as of yet. I guess it will be the old trial and error.
