Test Firing the Various 4350 Powders

A post recently in the GD forums got me thinking of an experiment I did 15 or so years ago. I have a Remington 721 in .300 H&H magnum with the 26" barrel. I lucked onto an accuracy load with the 165 gr. Nosler balistic tip bullet and IMR4350 powder. So I thought I'd try the other 4350's I had on hand. I don't know if anybody remembers the Scott powder co. and their Brigadier powders but I had some of their 4351. 5-shot groups with all the powders, same charge weight, same bullet, WW cases, and WLRM primers averaged 1.5" groups or less. Results as follows:

Accurate Arms 4350, five 5-shot groups (25 shots) averaged 3223 fps.
IMR 4350, four 5-shot groups (20 shots) averaged 3220 fps.
Hodgdon H4350, eight 5-shot groups (40 shots) averaged 3199 fps.
Scott Brigadier 4351, Six 5-shot groups (30 shots) averaged 3142 fps.

I have a couple of old Winchester 70's in this chambering, too, but above loads did not group as well in those. As an aside, a bullet that groups suprisingly well in all three .300 H&H's is the 220 gr. Sierra round nose. It shoots small groups in a .300 Win. mag. and some of my .30/06's, too.
