308 pet loads?

kimberkidkimberkid Member Posts: 8,837 ✭✭✭
I've got a few pounds of Accurate 2230 and Data 2200 that I've loaded 223 with and I thought I had a good load data for 308's as well ... Specifically, Sierra 168HPBT Match for a 1-10 and a 1-11 twist barrel ...

I've moved a couple times in the last 5 years and I can only find the data for my 223 rifles ... I've been shooting up my stash and haven't loaded any 308 in awhile.

So, if there's any help out there TIA!
If you really desire something, you'll find a way ?
? otherwise, you'll find an excuse.

My 2000 copyright Accurate Arms manual lists 37.8 grains @2297fps up to 42.0 grains @2610 fps for the Sierra 168 HPBT. This is directly from the book.
FWIW. My opinion is AA 2230 is too fast for .308 with 168 grain bullets. It is an excellent .223 powder so my suggestion would be to find a proper burn rate powder for the .308 and continue to use 2230 in the smaller .223.

Can't help you with the 2230, but I have always had good luck with BLC2 and Winchester 748. Some say that 748 and BLC2 are the same powder but the tech I spoke with at Hodgdon said the are not. They both work well in my 223's and 308's. Also, I always use a magnum primer for all ball powder loads. I picked up a couple pounds of Ramshot Tac and will be testing some loads as soon as the weather breaks.

    Here is Accurate load data:

My .308's are all the rear view mirror at this point, but here's an enthusiastic second to the BC-2 and 748! You'll burn it all in time and have to replace with something anyway, so like the man say, keep your current powders for the .223 and get something better suited to the .308.
