Coated Brass

A customer came in today with a 45 acp case that had some sort of coating on it that appeared to be permanent. It was a semi-clear very slick coating that was applied the entire length of the sidewall but not in the rim area. When ran through a die it was very slick and seemed to change color slightly to an almost clear. He has not fired any of these. anyone come across this stuff? Remington headstamp.
