Were there any semiauto rifles that originally were shooting black powder ammo?

The Remingtom model 8 recoil action and the Standard Arms gas operated were some of the earliest semi autos 1906-1910 but were in smokeless powder calibers.

The Winchester 22 rimfire that preceded the Model 63...I can't remeber the number...1901 perhaps. It didn't work all that well with out very frequent cleaning.
