22-250 loads with 55gr Nosler BT bullets

BHAVINBHAVIN Member Posts: 3,490 ✭✭
I have a Remington 700 varmint rifle with a 26" heavy barrel. I would like to use 55gr Nosler BT and Varget powder but am open to other powders such as H380. Does anyone have any "pet" loads that they would like to share? I am going to be working up some test loads this weekend and I thought I would get opinions. I will take care of the OAL, brass prep and will verify load advice with my load manuals as I know these are all important factors. Thank you.

38.3 of IMR 4350 was pretty impressive for me with that bullet. H380 was OK but did not give results as repeatable as the 4350. I used a load 2 grains lower than listed on the jug to start.

H-4350 will do very well in the 22/250 and AA2460 is another great powder for the 22/250.
My 22/250 AI likes 37.5 grains of H-4350 and the 75gr Amax but it has a 1 in 9 twist.

I use varget in my .22-250, but i use the 50 grain nosler bt. I back off of the max load 2 grains to 34 grains even. my 250 seems to love it.

-I will be trying IMR 4350.-

I tried IMR 4350 in my 22-250 many years ago. It shot well but it was a nuisance to get through that little 22 caliber neck. I went to H380 & never looked back.

    22-250 Remington
Standard 1-14" twist ( Remington Factory Varmit Rifle )
    55 gr Nosler B.T.
    Winchester Case
    Winchester L.R. Primer
    H. Varget Powder: Start around 33.6 GR and shoot groups working up .2 tenths of a grain at a time to a maximum load of 35.0 grs ( max. load listed in Nosler #5 Manual ).
Most of them will shoot well in this range in my experience ( although the one I've been shooting lately likes 50 gr. Hornady V-Max. bullets better )with several rifles. Sometimes they will shoot well with a hotter load but your gun may not. Just watch for pressure signs as you go up. Your mileage may vary.
    Good Luck............[8D]

I use 35.5 gr Varget to push a 55-gr Nosler Bt/Bt with really good results. I've got some V-Max 55-grainers, but I haven't loaded them for years. I'll get 'em out, dust 'em off and see how they compare to the boattails I've been using.
