What do you pay per round , to reload 1000 rounds of .40 cal pistal ammo?
Comments
I don't buy high dollar bullets for my .40 but here is how it breaks down for me:
1000 small pistol primers- 17.99 or about 1.8 cents each.
a pound of bullseye @ 16.99 which I use 5.3 gr. of per bullet and that comes out to 1.2 cents per bullet. I use Rem jacketed hollow points which if I buy in bulk I get for 8 cents a piece for a grand total of 11 cents per bullet. Times 1000 equals $110.00~approximately.
Consider that the least expensive ammo I can buy for my .40 is $8.50 for 50 and that comes out to 17 cents per bullet...or $170. bucks per 1000. I did get a deal once that I got 500 rds. for $45.00. Which equates to $90 per 1000. but that isn't common.
Thank you for the reply and info. You just made my day.[:)][:)][:)]
Justify, justify, justify?
Unfortunately, after my business lunch date today, I went up to the store where I purchased the .40 cal 180 grn Rem JHP's. I noted the price went to 13 cents a bullet. Which, if you reloaded at that price would still be a savings of 1 cent a round off the cheapest stuff. Still worth it as far as I'm concerned.
Something of note I found when reloading .40 cal, and you may already know this, is make sure to finish off the round with the factory sizing die. I went from way too may misfeeds/jams etc. to no problems when I did. I didn't seem to have the same problem when I reloaded .45 ACP. I will start doing that with my .45 though too.
-good luck

If I reloaded 1000 rounds each during the year, I saved over $1200.00....IF you compare QUALITY rounds to QUALITY reloads. I am not comparing my reloads to $40/box of 20 rifle...but middle of the road over the counter items.
Something, as you have already discovered, it is VERY hard to put a price on the quality of rounds tailored for your weapon. When you walk up to the range, you KNOW where your rounds are going. Not wondering....did I shoot the white box 20000 grain....or the orange box 200020 grain JHP last time I bought ammo at Karen's Sport Shop?
If I am punching paper or picking a prairie dog at 600 yards, I KNOW where the round will go....or at least have the ability...if I do my part.
$7 for 10 OZ of solo 1000
$55-65 for 1000 berry's or ranier Plated bullets
