I have a ruger mini 14 ranch rifle and want to reload 223 ammo. Are there certain types of brass that are not good to buy, for example military, etc? I have heard some have corrosion problems and also do not feed well when shot.
As I am a novice at this I would appreciate as much mundane detail as you feel the time to share with me.
    Many Thanks

what kinds of brass are you guys using in your 223's? is the winchester brass a good choice or some other brands more highly recomended?

Lapua is the most consistent I have used. Norma is very good as well,...but seems to not last as long. The DWS brass from what I hear is equally as consistent as Lapua,..but at a price.

Depends on your use. If you're doing serious target work (competition) the high dollar brass is in order.
If your just shooting for fun or Varmits the Winchester, Remington or Federal should get you by fine with a few throw aways.

I routinely shoot groups with a 223 down in the .2" - .3" range with with Winchester, Remnington & Federal brass -- and sometimes smaller than that. Primarily varmit rounds.
When we get serious I go to Laupua most times........................

I use alot of LC brass. I also use Winchester and Federal depending on which gun and what load I am using. I have had good luck with it all but I probably prefer the Federal.

Winchester and Remington seem to work fine for me for varmint loads. I have nearly 400 pieces of each brand and have loaded them all 4 times. No real problems, nothing to complain about. Fine for varmints.

Everybody has their pet peeve when it comes to what they will or will not accept. Mine is off center flasholes. I have never seen an off center flashole in a piece of Lapau brass. It happens quite a bit with military .223 brass and with less frequency with Remington, Federal and Winchester brass. Lapua comes from the factory ready to load(no need to trim, ream or anything else for that matter). I have to completely prep all the American brass that I use. I will admit to being very strict which it comes to the brass tht I will load. No use to pay the prices that components cost today without getting your full moneys worth. My .02 anyway and not binding on anyone else.

[8D]--Like temblor, I've used Winchester brass and by staying consistent with OAL and weight, measuring powder individually--

--I shoot easy groups in the same .2/.3 " range--

--you just have to stay consistent!!!
