trail boss in reduced loads

I've been thinking of trying Trail Boss for reduced loads in cases such as .30-40, .30-06, .45-70, .50-70, Is threre any data out there on this?

I have the Hodgdon 2006 Annaul Manual (which is their newest out)and it does not show Trail Boss. You might contact Hodgdon and ask them.

Thanks, I will try that. I had been using Red Dot, but it was very dirty, and I was afraid of a double charge in the big cases.

Trail Boss is made by IMR. If you go to their website, you can see the data for what you want. I saw 30-30 and 45-70 listed.

Thanks, I looked at their site, but there was nothing for the .30-40 Krag or the '06. I cast a 200 gr.LRN with gas check. Do you suppose that starting about 5 gr would be okay?

Thanks, I found the info on .45-70. What I really need now would be a starting load for .30-40 Krag with a 200gr cast LRN with gas check.

If it was me, I would try 7 gr. In looking at my Lyman loading manual, I see that a 30-40 with a 169 gr lead has a starting load of 8 gr of unique and a 30-30 with the same bullet is 7 gr of unique. IMR shows a 30-30 with a 160 lead lists starting load of 6.5 of Trail Boss and a max of 9 gr. Figuring that with a 200 gr you need to come down a bit, I come up with about 7gr of Trail Boss as a starting load. I would be afraid that 5 gr might get you a stuck bullet.

Pearyw. I confused myself since Hodgdon is packaging IMR powders now. Hodgdon is now offering a 2007 load book with Hodgdon, IMR & Winchester data, but it looks like it is only for the "50 most popular loads" Thanks. Sorry if I steered you off course wood butcher.
