Shooting very high

mikecarol63mikecarol63 Member Posts: 336 ✭✭✭
Hi guys. I have a problem. I just bought a Bersa 383 in .380. I went to the 25 yard range yesterday, and I am hitting about a foot high. I have the windage adjusted fine, but there is no elevation adjustment on this pistol. I lined the sights up on the bull, as I would with a rifle, and like I said, am hitting a foot or better too high, at 25 yards. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance, Mike

Try lighter, faster bullet if possible - use two hands, stiff wrists, set black on top of front blade, adjust sight picture, realize that this pistol is not intended for 25 yard targets, as with many SAA 45.s Hicock said to aim at the crotch to hitem in the chest.

Hi again; Would you think that this would do better at 50 yards? Mike

I have several pistols that shoot high and I just go to a 6 o'clock hold on the target when shooting them.

Why would you shoot a non target pistol at 50yds?

Is this a carry weapon? I'd figure out how to hit center at 10yds, not 50.
You may just have to aim low if it is consistently hitting 1' high.

is this free handed or on a rest?

not saying it is you but that possibility needs to be eliminated, shooting high is common, it can be cause from breaking your wrist, or anticipation recoil, obviously with a .380 there will not be much recoil but with the anticipation it may very well be, you might have someone else shoot it to see, if not you can look into changing the sight, or modify the front sight

[:I]Thanks all for your advice. I'll try it all, and see what happens. I did try free hand and off the bench. I don't have a problem with flinching or recoil anticipation. Mike.[:I][:I]

Alot of documentation for handgun shooting shows the proper technique for sight picture to not be dead on center but at the bottom of the black ( example of 6 inch target ) to compensate for muzzle rise and flinch - try this - I think it was already mentioned.
What's wrong with shooting non target pistols at 50 yards - I have a ruger p85 9mm that i shoot quite well at 50 yards consistantly under 8 inches and a redhawk 41 mag i shoot at 100 yards half way decent.

Nothing is wrong with shooting at 50yrd, but how much fun can you have shooting 8" groups.

The 41mag is a whole different animal. They're great 100yd deer guns and shooting at 100yds is a blast.

Can you see why I asked why he would shoot a 380 Bersa at 50yds? That gun may not even hit paper.
