.300 Win. mag. and .308 loads please

Hi ya'll! I haven't posted in this column before but some of you may know me from the general discussion column. I am getting a .300 Winchester Magnum as well as a .308 in a week and would like some input on some good loads for both long range shooting and hunting. I have never had a rifle in these calibers so I have no load data. Thanks for the input everyone!

I am open to all suggestions. Never had guns in these calibers so I have to find what I like best. I won't be hunting anything bigger than Elk or Mule Deer.

For my custom 300 Win Mag i shoot a 165 Horn Inerbond wiht a federal 215 match primer. With 74.0 gr RL19 results 3/8 inch groups. Also great results with H414 and N160. Good luck!

For the 308 winchester I use IMR 3031@39.0 gr,Federal 210 primer,on top of a 168gr BTHP for accuracy loads.[^]It will make very nice groups under .75 inch.

    civiliansoldier,

For the .308 I use 42 gr. of RE-15 behind a 168 gr. (Sierra, Nosler CC, Hornady) bullet for just under 2600 fps out of a 24" barrel. No load suggestions for the .300 Win.

Just bought a 300 win mag myself, have you decided on a scope yet?

Kenbeatus; I bought one from NcStar, A Mark III 6-24x50 with the range finding reticle and side focus for $139.00 and have been very happy with it so far. I bought it at a gun show in Orlando, Fl. so I don't know who carries that line of scopes. I put a Target Sports 3-9x50 on my .308 and I am happy with it as well. Both scopes have survived around thirty rounds each without changing zero or any other issues.
