Sizing 9mm cases

SW 357MagSW 357Mag Member Posts: 1,960 ✭✭✭✭✭
Hello,

I just bought about 1500 9mm cases. Been sizing them about all day. About 70-75% of them size easily and just fine. The others however require a lot more force to size, like a large rifle case. They are all WIN brand and the same lot. Once fired - not new brass. Any ideas why some of them are so much harder to size?

Is it same to go ahead and load them or does this indicate a problem with the cases?

Sounds like the primers were crimped on those cases. If you sized them they should be ok to load. Might check the case length also.

Ammo shot in machine guns tend to make the brass tough to resize. Some chambers are a bit sloppy to allow good function. Also, some guns have a pretty large unsupported area to allow good feeding. Those cases probable are a bit hard to resize too.

Resize and shoot the brass as normal. you may find it has a short reloading life but it should be just fine.

I buy quite a bit of range brass and find the same deal. The stuff is fired in many different guns and some of them are pretty sloppy. Once in a while I get one that is way too hard to size and just pitch it. Some will show a belt around the base and those are trashed. I never check case length and very seldom have a problem. This is practice ammo so a FTF is not a problem and I just pull the bullet later and load in another case. For ammo that really needs to work I only use known brass and use more care in culling.
