savage 112 competition model

joesjoes Member Posts: 484 ✭✭✭
I just bought a used savage model 112 in a .223 which was made around 1994. It says "competition model" on it. The barrel near the muzzel end has a step down (is about 1/8 in smaller than the rest of the barrel and is about two inches long) what is the reason for the step down? thanks, joe.

    joes,

It's a concentric cylinder turned to a specific diameter to mount long range iron sights for competitions such as Palma.

    Best.

    I knew I had a picture somewhere...
