Need a safe load for a orig. Springfield trapdoor 45-70 rifle using a
500 gr. lead RN bullet preferably snokeless powder. Am thinkin of possibly Acurate Arms 5744 powder. I understand pressure should be kept
below 18,000 psi.

My Lyman manual only goes to 420 gr cast for the old Springfields. They seem to go to a max of 17000cup. They do not list any loads for 5744. RX7 powder seems to be their powder of choice. Accurate book list 5744 with starting load of 22.5 gr with 500 gr cast and a max load of 25 gr at 1209 fps.
