LRM primers and 220 Swift?

mazo kidmazo kid Member Posts: 648 ✭✭✭✭
I just posted this on the "Ask the Experts" forum before I found out there WAS a reloaders forum. Anyway, anyone have any loads or opinions about using the magnum primers in the 220 Swift? I'm not looking for max. velocity, mid-upper range would do. Thanks. Emery

The only time I could see that necessary would be in extremely cold temps with very temp sensitive ball powder. Other than that, the limited capacity of the swift should be efficiently lit by the LR primer,..especially the hottest of the bunch, the fed 210.

why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

Unless your burning over 50 grains of powder, magnum primers are not called for, and generally not needed.
RL-15 is a great powder in my 220 Swift Ackley Improved #1 V Ruger, and I use a Federal 210M primer in it, with a 52 gr A-max from Hornady....
