.30 Carbine questions.

Hi:

Have some cases from Lake City 1954 and WCC from 1944. Does anyone know if they have a crimped primer? If so what is the best way to remove the crip?

Finally - getting a bunch of new cases. Do you need to do anything to them before loading like running through the sizing die?

Sorry for the dumb novice questions ... but I am.

Of course it's crimped - use your case neck deburing tool

A neck deburring tool will do it, but will take awhile.

If you want to/have to remove a crimp, for a few, lyman makes a reamer for the job; for a lot, RCBS makes a primer pocket swager that is just tops for the job.

For new cases, I always size; nominally you shouldn't have to but sometimes they are slightly out of round coming from the factory. Give it a try; if you can seat bullets without bulging the cases or shaving any off the bullet, you can probably get away without it.

The USGI 30 carbine cases I have are not crimped. I have new military pull down LC 1945 and they did not come with a crimp.

My understanding (and it could be wrong) is that LC wandered in and out of using a crimp over the years.

I have loaded several thousand rounds of .30 Carb with virgin brass. I did NOT resize them and had no problems.

Keep in mind that when you resize "fired" carbine brass it stretches and should be trimmed. I have tried reloading some without trimming and they were too long to chamber.

Thanks for the info. 3000 bullets, 1000 cases and 8 pounds of powder arrived last night. Just need the primers and then my free time is spoken for!
