Is there much difference in XII model from the late 80's to todays model when it comes to quality? The prices seem to have held up so it stands to ask if there has been advances in coatings in the lenses in the last 20 years or has it remained the same? thanks! joe.

joe, don't know why 135 people read this post without a reply so here's my .02.I have both older "lueys" and new models and they, so far, are showing no difference in clarity or dependability.good luck should you buy one

my understanding is that there have indeed been significant engineering advances in lenses and especially coatings, as well as scope mechanics, in the last 20 years, and that more recent scopes are considerably improved. that's just from reading, i'm no engineer. suggest John Barsness' booklet on hunting optics
