.44 magnum reloading

I plan on reloading for a Ruger .44 magnum carbine. Are there any special considerations for reloading for this gun. I have never used any of my reloads in semi-autos.

I'd load just like for a pistol. Not to hot at first, see how they eject.

Load a few and check them in your gun. I had a Deerfield and it would NOT cycle with the normal loads I shot out of my single action. Keep in mind I don't like loads that are so hot they are no fun to shoot. Other then power of the load it should all be the same.

If it is for the auto, do not shoot cast bullets. Jacketed only. The cast will plug the gass holes.
23 gr of H-110, 240 gr HP or Sp, with a Winchester Large Pistol primer. Make sure to put a good crimp on the bullet.
It'll make the gun cycle.

SP45

Use a ball powder like 296 or something with a similar burn rate. It will burn cleaner in the auto. As stated use a good crimp so the bullets will not move in the case. Use jacketed bullets, they are more reliable in an auto loader and you don't have the leading problems. What are you going to hunt? For deer the 240 is a good all around round. If you are going for bear or hogs the 265 JFP that Hornady used to load for the 444 Marlin is realy good. Barnes used to make some 300 gr JSP if you can find some of them, they are great. I have not used the 300 gr XTP so I don't know how they work. You can also go lighter with the 200 JHP but you have to make sure that they function the gun properly.
