Rem 700 trigger adjustment?

Is there any way to adjust the trigger on my 700?

Yes, but it should be done by a certified gunsmith. The adjustments are sealed at the factory.

This should help you tune your 700 trigger.
Use a real small screwdriver to remove the factory sealer on all 3 screws.
When your finished with all the safety checks apply clear nail polish to the screw heads
so they don't loosen.

If you loosen the weight of pull screw, do you have to make any other adjustments?

Most of the time just the weight adjustment does it. DON'T put it under 3lbs. or you are asking for trouble [}:)]

Thanks Dick! How do I test the weight of pull on it? It does take a little effort. Just not as bad as off the shelf.

You need a trigger pull guage or a set of weights that you can hang on the trigger.

Well it'll hold a 2lb but the 3lb fires it. What do you think? Close enough? What would be the downside?

Downside is if you bump it really hard or drop it, it will go off, MAYBE !!!!
Safety checks include-
Safe on, pull trigger, take safe off and hope it don't fire !!!
Safe off, wack it all over with a mallet, and hope it don't fire !!!
Drop it on the floor with safe off and again, hope it don't fire!!!!!
Generally much less than 3 pounds on a 700 Remington trigger is considered unsafe......

Thanks. I'll skip some of the check for now and go ahead and bump it up to 3 pounds at least. I'd rather be safe. Then I'll run the checks. I did slap it around pretty good the after adjusting it down but that was about the only check I did. I really appreciate the info.

Make sure and recheck it after you put in back on the stock. The new Remington triggers will vary depending on the amount of stock bolt torque.

Nail polish is a must! Don't use any loctite! Even the weakest Loctite can be to much for the small screws found in trigger actions. And will cause stuck fastners and lots of headaches!
