Cant (won't) recommend a load, but as far as powders only 2 come to mind that work well in a rifle or pistol with heavy bullets, 2400 & 4227.Use a fairly heavy ROLL crimp with these.

    I'm pushing 240gr Nosler Partitions with 22gr of 2400 out of a Marlin 1894.

It's very close if not exceeding max(in some books).

Work up your load and look for signs of pressure.

    pphillips:
Look at the Speer reloading manual number 12 it has load data for the 300 grain bullet.[8D]

    Hodgdon shows a 300gr XTP in front of 20gr H4227 @ 1452 fps - 38,600 CUP.

    Same bullet in front of 19gr H110 @ 1473fps and 38,800 CUP.

    Both with a 1.600" COL.

The best powders I've found for the 44 are: Alliant 2400, Hodgdon H 110, and Winchester 296. My hunting load for Whitetail in my Ruger Carbine is a Nosler 240gr. JHP w/ CCI 350 Mag primers and 23grs of H 110. I also use this load in my Ruger Super Blackhawk and Redhawk (both 7.5" barrels). There are no signs of high pressure in any of these firearms w/ this load. Out of the carbine it will shoot 2"to 3" groups at 75 yards w/ factory open sights off hand. It kills deer very well w/ any well placed shot. In the Ruger carbine bullet seating depth is important for reliable feeding and funtion. Don't seat over 1.610". I like the Nosler 44 240gr because they're accurate and (in bulk box of 250 heads)they are priced reasonably.
My only experiments w/ 300 gr 44 bullets is with the Hornady 300gr XTP loaded w/ CCI300 primers and 17.1grs of 2400. These were shot out of my Smith&Wessons. This load is very accurate, but they also produce heavier recoil then the 240gr heads.

    SPEER MANUAL #13 pg 404, 44Mag rifle: 300gr

    2400,CCI300 primer: 16.6grs=1246FPS Max.18.5grs=1438FPS

    H 110, CCI350 primer: 18.5grs=1347FPS Max.20.5grs=1503FPS

    Win296, CCI350 primer: 18.9grs=1337FPS Max. 21.0grs=1499FPS

I chamfer my case mouths and bell them just enough so when you seat the bullet the mouth won't shave the sides of the bullet head and you get a very tight bullet to case fit.Use a heavy crimp. This is very important to accuracy.

Hope this was heplful, The Coyote
