.223 Load

bperdue21bperdue21 Member Posts: 1,457 ✭✭
I was looking around for a .223 load for my varmint special and was checking out the H380 in the book. i am interested in shooting a 50 gr v-max with a compressed load of h380, so does anyone use this powder for the .223?

I'm not an expert, but i did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I have always used Hodgon BL-C2 but like Richbug stated I have seen good results with Varget.

I have had great groups from AA2230C, IMR3031, IMR4350, Varget, etc, etc....all cooking along in the 2700-3100 velocity range.

My 223 LOVES Sierra 69 gr HPBT pills....others shoot good...but nothing like these.

When I work up a bullet, I use 5 shot groups, and vary the powder by .3 grain per load workup. After I find something that works good, I go back and change my OAL. Every little bit helps.

I will say this, I have shot 3 or 4 compressed loads, my 223 does not like compressed loads at all.

My delivery package consists of a Savage Model 12, single shot bull barrel, with a BSA 6-24x40 scope, on Leopuld one piece base & rings. This particular rifle is kind of an oddball...the action is for the large diameter barrels.

I have had great success with XMR2015. 24 grs behind a 55 gr v-max or a 60 gr. Sierra hp. I had used 26-27 gr. Varget with 69 gr. Sierra's and 68 gr. hornady's to some success also. I also used 25.5 gr's of 4895 behind a a 70 gr. Berger for some really tight groups at 300 yds. -good luck

We have the second amendment so that all the rest are secure....UNK>
