Looking for really low recoil set up for Glock .40

sweaversweaver Member Posts: 973 ✭✭✭✭
Heya,
I have been trying several different loads and havent been totally satisfied with the results. I'm still really new at this, so I need some guidance. I have a new can of AA5 and want to use that up before I go to a different powder. Can anyone make a suggestion, using this powder, that would give the lowest recoil? I'm looking to improve follow up shots.

thanks,
shane

The best way to get the recoil down is to load the lighter bullets. A load I use is 9.2 gr AA5 with a 135 gr Nosler jhp bullet. Depending on what pistol you are loading for, you can install a lighter recoil spring and reduce the powder charge for less recoil. It is a trial and error process to reduce velocity and maintain reliability.

Thats kinda what I was thinking. The 40 is already low recoil. If you want even less get a water pistol.

That's pretty interesting, from everything I've read the .40 has just about the harshest recoil in handguns because of its compression and power factor...

40 is low recoil to anyone that shoots big bores regularly. The forty is not a "high pressure" round. No clue what you are talking about when you say "compression"? Powder compression? Just looking at one manual quick i see no "compressed" 40 loads in it. Depending what pistol it is shot in the only "full size" semi-auto duty caliber with less recoil than the 40 is the 9mm luger and some of the +P+ stuff is pretty hot. 45acp, 357sig, 10mm, 38 super, 357mag and 44 special all have more free recoil energy than the 40. Power Factor? What formula are you using? plug any of above mentioned rounds in it and it will probably out preforme the 40.

    40 S&W Pressures are around 22,000 or 23,000 CUP

    10mm approx 29,000 CUP
    38 super approx 31,000 CUP
    357 mag approx 40,000+ CUP
    9mm Luger approx 33,000 CUP
    41 mag approx 37,000 CUP
    44 mag approx 37,000+ CUP
    45 ACP +p approx 20,000 CUP

Stop reading and get some range time!
