black powder loading

I shoot a knight bk92 50 cal 1-28 twist and am not happy with the groupings I'm getting with 90 gr pyrodex select rs and a saboted 44 cal 300gr xtp.. I don't have lots of time to play with the gun so I would really appreciate some input from the serious black powder shooters.... I have lots of lighter bullets, but I thought the longer bullet flies better???? I have harvested many deer with this load at very close range, but this year I'll have to make 100 yrd shots...

Try 100gr RS select and a 348gr Powerbelt (http://www.powerbeltbullets.com/). It easily will get to 100yds even 150 with a relatively flat trajectory. I use these for deer and elk with great success whether its my percussion or in-line. Make sure you have a good rest for those long shots [;)]. The above site has good ballistics data that is very close compared to what I got with my REM 700ML and chrono.
