yes, you can, but not much sense in it. If you used jacketed bullets the barrel would be totally fouled within a few shots. With a well lubricated lead bullet you might get 10-20 shots before it became totally fouled and lost accuracy. IIRC BP will only make 25,000psi, the 308 is designed for over 50,000. You cannot load a reduced charge with black, it must have a full case, air space is a bad thing with BP. I did some experiments with a 1916 spanish mauser in 308 a while back. I got about 2000 fps with a 155 grain lead bullet and a full case of Goex 3f. Accuracy was OK for a few shots.

ditto..... which is why the brits originally loaded the .303 with black powder, compressed. With proper shallow bp rifling, it works fine, with most modern designs, it don't.

due to it's extremely fast burn rate,..I can see no reason to do so. A VERY small amount may be doable, but accuracy will surely be mediocre. Too much and you are on your way to the ER.

why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
    Got Balistics?

Don't use a small amount. it will cause problems. If you must try it use a case full to the mouth and compress it with the bullet when seating. Air space with black powder it a bad thing.
