Chronograph, Pact or Chrony at Midway

SnellstromSnellstrom Member Posts: 1,085 ✭✭
I see Midway has a small sale on Chronographs that got my attention. They have Pacts Model 1 XP's for $120 or Chrony Beta Master for $120, looks like Pact has the best warranty, lifetime vs. 3 year.
We've covered this topic before but give it to me again ( I'll probably shut up and buy this time ). Both are only $10 off the normal price but I need one so now I'm hot to buy.
Thanks

    Dave,

Neither one, the $10.00 off isn't worth buying either one. I know that most folks will advocate that 'something is better than nothing', but the basic lack of consistancy in both of these chronographs makes them sort of a waste. If you want to invest in a good chronograph get one that's worth the money in the first place:

    Eric,

I think that the RSI Millemium is better than either of the other two mentioned in the original question above. http://www.shootingsoftware.com/chronographs.htm

The Oehler Model 35 is better but more expensive:
    http://www.oehler-research.com/

I use the Oehler Model 43 Personal Ballistics Laboratory with the acoustic target but at $1700.00 it's beyond what most folks need to work up loads.

My point about the two that David asked about is that they are not consistant because of the way they are built. I should back up a bit though and say that for an occasional user, they will be O.K. just not great. The Pact Professional Model Chronograph and their new Infrared Skyscreens would be a better buy but more expensive.

This is from another website regarding the Pact:

"Yes, you should feel fortunate you didn't buy a Pact chronograph. I don't know if you've seen my posts in the last week or so concerning a Pact Model 1 XP chronograph that I tried for one day but to summarize it was utterly disappointing. It gave me readings on 10 out of 39 rounds. I took Pact up on their 30 day return policy and ordered an Oehler. I took the Oehler out yesterday and today and shot under the same light conditions as the Pact was used in. It gave me readings every time. I'm so glad I made the swap! The reason I went with the Pact is that I have one of their early electronic scales and haven't had any problems. Good luck getting it fixed!"

But buy what you can afford or gets your attention and hope that it performs up to your expectations.

Thanks for the feedback nononsense. I have been using a buddy's up until now, but it is time to get one of my own. I would like to get one of the best, but I certainly cannot afford to fork out the kind of money you paid for yours! I'm looking at up to around $300 or so.

    Eric,

Take a look at the entire RSI website and be sure to read about the additional software both interior and exterior. They also make an Infrared Lighting Option screens. It's a pretty powderful system and I think it's in your price range. But take a look around and do a search for other opinions and see what's been said by others that own the system.

    Good Luck!

I have the RSI millinnium and am vary happy with the results i have been getting. I have had mine for about two years now and have not had a single problem.

Thanks Nononsense and One shot I really appreciate the information and opinions, the things you'll learn on this forum when you just ask!
I checked out the RSI site and like what I saw, looks like if I buy the software and the chronograph it will be 179.00 plus 60.00, this seems like a lot of good stuff for the money.
    Thanks again.
