New Encore 22-250 barrel. Awesome!

Well, it came yesterday, and was fired for the first time in rain. It's still raining and promises to continue for a couple more days. And I need to sight in the iron sights!

Anyhow, I love it! I love the minimal recoil (given a case that big) and adore the 'report', which is loud, lasting, and impressive as all get out.

Now, I just need a good scope with lots of EER, and at least six or eight magnification, more if I can get it. Until I find one though, I'll make do with iron sights for lots of fun.

And oh yeah, I ordered the barrel from Cheaper Than Dirt, on Wednesday the 5th, and it came before noon on Saturday the 8th, which is plenty fast enough to suit me, bigtime....

The only sound better than the report of the 22-250 is the return slap of the bullet hitting a groundhog 300 yds away.

Think Burris for you scope, it'll have all the power your looking for:

Good luck! Get a Burris scope and put it into Burris Signature rings.

I suspect I'll end up with a Burris scope then....although I pulled the 2X28 Weaver off my .22LR barrel and put it on the new one. I simply couldn't bring myself to go with iron sights on the 22-250.

Ten shots was all it took to get dead on at 65 yards, but since the scope was already sighted in for the .22LR barrel, that didn't surprise me.

And I'm looking forward to getting into a little varmint hunting. But groundhogs? Seems as if most of the groundhogs in these parts are now littering the ground as coyote scat....so I guess it'll be the three C's, coyotes, * and crows until I can find something else to shoot at.

Now, the question is, what kind of light do I need in order to get those 100 yard night-time varmint shots?

    Later....and thanks!

So tell me. Why is your 22-250 hanging up unused, while you're favoring the .204?

I researched pretty much all the 22 calibers.....but did I miss something in the .204?

Shucks, I hope I don't need to buy another barrel soon. Mrs. Sahagan is beginning to lose patience with me.

The biggest reason (for me) is the 204 is all but recoiless. I would compare the recoil to a 22mag or 17hmr. 20 cal is kinder to hides. I can almost reload 2 to 1 as far as the powder charge goes. 26.5grs vs 42grs.

    Great! Now I need a .204....

On the other hand, my Encore, which started out with a bit of a rough trigger, has responded well to many hundreds of shots, most at .22LR. So now, I have a trigger much more to my liking. Smooth, and mysterious enough I can't anticipate let off enough to even try to keep from flinching.

Mike Bellm is a guy that makes and sells sear springs. you can replace the factory sear spring. it turned my 6lb encore trigger into a 2 1/2
