OAL Gauge Alternative

konamtbikerkonamtbiker Member Posts: 284 ✭✭✭
I normally use a Stoney Point OAL gauge for determining my overall length to find my seating depth. Unfortunately I am in Colorado going to school and dont have it with me. Are there any ways of finding the OAL using another method other than a OAL Gauge. Thanks in advance!

    Back in the day....
Insert bullet into the chamber and hold it lightly aganst the rifling with the eraser end of a pencil.
Insert a cleaning rod down the barrel, and mark it at the muzzle.
Remove the bullet (and pencil), close the bolt and slide the rod down aanst the bolt face and again mark it at the muxxle.
Measure between the marks to get OAL when touching the lands.

Split the neck of a fired case, and start bullet in case and than gently chamber and remove. measure OAL for the "to lands" OAL
Alt to the last one, lightly flatten one side of a fired case neck, and procede as above.
