Just loaded my FIRST round.........

and I'm hooked! No more factory ammo for me. It's way to cold to go outside today so I got my first round loaded. Can't wait to shoot it either. It's an 8mm 170 gr bullet with 30.9 grains of IMR 4064. One of my main reasons for getting into reloading was b/c the old man has an 8mm muaser-he considers it mine [^]-that I like shooting and I was always too cheap to buy ammo for it. And that was before the last few price increases.[xx(] Yes, I know it's not a JS charge, saving the JS data for later when I want to make more noise.[;)] The longest part was weighing the charge and making sure it was correct. Thanks to everyone for answering my questions, and I'm sure I'll have more in the future! [:D][:D]

I didn't shoot my first one.. It's sitting on my work bench with a 1 on it.
Mine is going to be the first one I shoot. Today I loaded up another 9 to give me an even 10. That will probably be about all my shoulder will take. I don't shoot nearly as much as most people on the forum and when I do it's mostly my garand. Although this summer I'm going to do good bit of practice as I'm planning on going deer hunting the first time this fall. Planning on taking the garand for that and using a 150 grain bronze point. Can't wait!!
Congratulations! I'll bet you can't wait to get back and load some more after you shoot your first ten off. As noted it will become quite the habit once you start getting into it more. -good luck
I would guess that will be moving at around 1800 feet per second- very mild indeed. I'd also bet your shot to shot consistency won't be that great- the powder MAY be too slow, depending on your primer, to completely burn given that load amount. I hit my best consistency (Standard Deviation) with about 42 gr of 4064 and up.
I just want to warn you that it can get so addictive to reload that you find yourself braving the sub-zero's of Minnesota winters 'just to see how the powder shoots in the cold.'
I went out a few times last week when it was sub-zero. The coldest was -18 when I got there to warming up to -8....made it all the way to -3 that day.
Today was a far different story. 40 deg. and a little breezy. Hard to call wind for the TCU @300. But I was out there and not having to hide my hands from the cold and butt stinging from sitting on the bench. Jacket unzipped and still not cold. It was nice.
Sandwarrior,
Maybe you should change your name to icewarrior! That's too cold for me. What was the windchill, -30? When your butt or any other body part is stinging and/or getting numb it's time to go inside.
Didn't make it for any fun this weekend. Ended up helping a buddy move. He's a good guy so it wouldn't have felt right going to play knowing he could have used my help. Oh well, there is always this weekend.
I have to say, I like those alternatives. You're certainly getting a lot more value out of him.[:D][:D]
