hard cast reloading bullets

im looking for hardcast bullets for 38/357 and 45lc. so if i see them advertised as hardcast is that good enough or is there a certain alloy with them that i need to look for to know for sure if they are hardcast? and who is good to buy them from?

Hard cast just means that the bullets are not of pure lead; they have tin or antimony added so that higher velocity may be reached without leading. Pure lead is good for black powder or very slow smokeless loads, whereas hard cast can be pushed up to about 1400 fps for a plain based bullet and 2000 fps with a copper gas check- even higher if you really know what you are doing.

I cast my own; so I can't recommend any person in particular but I'm sure someone will weigh in with that part of the question.

Oregon Trail's Laser-Cast bullets are about the hardest cast you can find.

A hard cast bullet will be so hard you can't mark it with your thumb nail.

Edit I think you need to get a second opinion on leading of hard VS soft . I have seen leading on undersize bullets both hard and soft but never because the velocity was too low with hard cast bullets . I have shot over 300,000 rounds of wadcutter ammo with both hard cast and soft swaged bullets I have never had a leading problem because of low velocity Your mileage may vary

What are your plans for these bullets? Hard cast bullets usually need to be driven at higher velocities or they tend to lead the barrel. If you are going to be loading low or medium velocity loads for plinking or cowboy action shooting hard cast is not what you want
