Skeet & 5 Stand

Hey Slim!
Great to see more skeet shooters comming on, its a physically and mentally demanding game. All the guys have given you some great input on your entry into the game as far as guns go. 5 stand is basicly a 12ga or 20ga game that is tough with the smaller gages. If you are thinking about getting into skeet to any depth at all you'll need all four gages. One of the ways this can be done is by tubing a 12ga gun, whichever one you decide on. A lot of the guys have tried 30" barrels but haven't seemed to gain any edge over the ones using 28" barrels. The tubes give added weight to the gun in the smaller gages. As far as gun length goes, your 6' height might seem to require a longer than average lenght of pull but it depends on how you mount your gun. I've seen 5'- 8" shooters that use a 14 1/2" LOP and some taller people that can use the standard 13 1/4". In a hunting gun just make sure it has mechanical triggers, some of the brownings use the inertia system.
Hope you always get to load 2 @ low 8.

Thanks for the reply buddy. Good input for sure. See my dilemma is this: I already feel like a competent shooter, or at least a decent shot and in time hopefully I'll be a great shot. I've only been sport shooting about a total of under 2 years now, and of that much more in the recent few months than in total. I started shooting trap b/c it seemed more fun, and for me easier. Just a few months ago I was "dragged" into the skeet world by some buddies, and now I love it, and even more recently I emmersed myself into the 5stand world and I now think skeet is boring. All this time I have been using my short 26" 20gauge, and done as I said decent for no training whatsoever. Long story short, part of me would love to have a 12 just for the occasional times I want that extra help (trap), but the other part of me feels that it's almost a sign of weakness going to the bigger guage when I am already doing probably just as good if not better w/ the 20. Do you know what I'm talking about? I probably should have started off w/ a 12 and moved down in guages. Honestly what I feel like doing now is buying a combo barreled gun (20/28) and seeing how I progress w/ the even smaller gauge. The basic fact is that I desperately have to find a new gun w/ a 30" barrel soon b/c my current gun is way too light and easy to lose control in my swing.
