shootuadealshootuadeal Member Posts: 5,292 ✭✭✭✭
can i load 451 diameter 230 gr fmj bullets in 45 colt. i really dont think it would be a problem but i thought i would just ask to be sure.

i bought a bag of winchester 451 230 gr fmjs for about 15 bucks. otherwise is there any good bullets to use for plus p loads that are cheap like that. i know yuou dont want to use the usual lrn bullets and i dont want to spend the money for xtps, gold dots hps etc, just for plinking.

The older colts revolver were .454 bore size but I think most new guns are .452. undersize bullets will strip and leave deposits in the bore so try some and see. One question Why load to +p spec to plink IMHO guns are like cars to run an engine at RED LINE will cause early wear +p as a steady diet will do the same thing .

You should be OK if the gun is a newer manufacture. Older guns in that caliber might have 454 dia bores. The big concern is trying to hold the bullet firmly in the thin case. Make sure you don't over bell the cases.

what is make and model of 45 colt gun?

A lot has to do with who makes it( it's how they interpret the diminsions) and when it was made.[8D]

It should work fine. Most of the new 45 LCs are .451. I know my Ruger is. It shoots the .451 bullets great. Very accurate.
