trap door

I have a 1873 springfield that I would like to shoot. Does anyone have a light load that is safe in this gun? How about remington factory ammo?

The Remington factory ammo is loaded to very mild pressures just because someone might use them in a Trapdoor. It is a little expensive if you are going to shoot a lot. If you could use cast lead bullets for reloading, you would probably never wear out an old Trapdoor rifle bore. An older Lyman reloading manual I use has a couple pages of loads specifically for use in a Springfield Trapdoor, plus heavier loads for stronger and more modern rifles on separate pages.
