Can load shorter ammo with longer die sets??

Can dies sets that are designed for a certain round be used to load shorter variants?
What I mean is can a set for 357 mag be used to load 38 special?
same for 9mm largo for 9mm luger? 32 H&R mag for 32 S&W long?

There are doubtless more combinations, but those are what I can think off hand.

Sorta works the other way. Short dies will load longer cart, the shell holder hits the die the other way.

357 dies work for 38's. The 32's should work fine. You can try the 9mm's and see.

357 Dies will size a 38 case, but you may not be able to set the belling die low enough and you definatly won't be able to set the seat/crimp die low enough.

Combo sets (38/357, 44spl/44Mag etc) use the sizing die for the longer case, and the bell & seat/crimp for the shorter case.

The place you are likely to run into problems is with crimping. I just pick up an extra crimp die for $3-$5 at the gun shows and shorten it.
