Clean shotgun powder

CopterdrvrCopterdrvr Member Posts: 11 ✭✭
Just got back into reloading after a long layoff. What's a good, CLEAN powder to use for 12ga/20ga shotshell reloading for a semi-auto.

Clean being the primary factor.

Hodgdon "CLAYS" ( they also make a "Universal Clays" powder ).Never loaded it in 20 gauge but it burns clean in 12 gauge and is advertised as such. It even says "Extra Clean Shotgun - Handgun Powder" on the bottles..............good luck.........[8D]

I have used a lot of Longshot from Hodgdon in my 12 ga auto, and it seems to burn clean enough, and crows sure dont like it very much[:D]

Reddot is a pretty dirty powder, I do like greendot, and it is what I use.

I shoot Universal in small gauges and TiteWad in 12 gauge. Neither leaves a residue of any significance. Both are Hodgdon. TW only works for 12 gauge, but it's cheap, and you don't need much of it[:D]

I just got done loading and test firing some 28 ga that I used Universal Clays powder. Not impressed. Left the barrel very dirty.

The International Clays that I used in the 12 ga was very clean.
    Any suggestions?
