Metallic Case Reloader

AlpineAlpine Member Posts: 15,092 ✭✭✭✭
Thought and opinions on a metallic (rifle and pistol) case reloader. I don't do a lot of this type of reloading, and have used a RCBS rock chucker. Was looking for maybe an indexing machine, and I already have the RCBS 1500 combo powder dispenser.

The Dillion doesn't interest me, but somewhere between the Dillion and the rock chucker there has to be a middle ground.

The main reason to reload is that 2 of the caliber I use aren't made anymore. The .225 and the 22 Rem Jet. Also have a couple of 30 06s and one .264 Winchester to feed.

Hello Alpine one thing to consider is that most if not all indexing progressive reloaders use a shell plate instead of shell holders . many rifle cases have the same size head and even the 45acp is the same size .Then all you need is the dies for each caliber but with your 4 calibers you would also need a shell plate for each one $$$$ Maybe a turret press like the old lyman but they are not the strongest.

Since you said you don't do a lot of this type of reloading, why not stick with a single stage press? Progressives can be a hassle and expensive if you load more than a couple of calibers. A rock chucker is a great start and you can batch your work to save time.
I still load all my long range stuff on a single stage and have no complaints.
For a hand gun ammo in any single caliber quantity though I think I would look at a small progressive

Do you have a source for bullets for the 22 Rem. Jet that you could share? I haven't reloaded any and do not even have dies but I would like to have some on hand for when ammo supply dries up.
I have a six hole turret press that I like very well, not a progressive, but a lot faster than a rockchucker. Just install and adjust dies and leave them there. Use the rockchucker for smaller quantity reloading.

    Thanks---Peabo

I am working on a supply of bullets that I bought a while back. I don't shoot it very often. I already have dies for each gun that I shoot. Although if your looking for 22 Rem Jet and .225 dies you might have some trouble.

I have some one that might know where to obtain bullets for the 22 Rem Jet. Next time I talk with him I will ask, because sooner or later I will run out.
