Prvi Partizan 308 Brass

flyingtorpedoflyingtorpedo Member Posts: 1,301 ✭✭✭✭✭
I've been looking at a few different types of 308/7.62 NATO ammo and just wondered how well the Prvi 308 brass is for reloading. I don't have any first hand exerience with the ammo but from what I gather it is top notch. I just figure that by the time I add up the cost for all the components that by the time I'd load 1000 rds of it (I'd need brass too) that my best deal would to be to get the ammo, shoot that, and reload the brass. Thanks for the info! [:)]

I tried two boxes of that brand ammo to run through my 22-250. It was as clean and accurate as any of the factory Winchester or Remington I had used.

I have also reloaded it twice now, only neck sizing. No problems at all.

The only thing I have to suggest is that you don't mix foreign brass and domestic brass when reloading. I found that a starting load in some Winchester brass was a near max load in some European commercial brass. I've also found that some of the foreighn brass is pretty soft and requires a lot more trimming.

Haven't tried reloading it, but my FAL eats it like you wouldn't believe. Shoots clean too...

I haven't tried it for .308. It's worked fine for reloading in other calibers though; though I didn't get as many reloads as with some other brands (10-12 and I was running into loose primer pockets from healthy but not overly powerful loads).

Thanks for the replies. I should have said that I'll be shooting and reloading it for a M1A. I planned on treating it like military brass, keeping the charge down a grain or 2 from commercial. I'ld also be loading on the low end as well. No need to burn extra powder for blasting ammo. Given the price of it, about $490 to my door, I think I may just have to go with the Prvi even though I may not get as many reloads from it.

    flyingtorpedo,

I've used it for 6.5x55, .308, 7.65x53 Argentine, and 7.5x55 Swiss. I found that when minimal resizing or neck sizing this brass is good. But when I first started resizing my 7.5 and moving the brass a lot (K-31 to std. 7.5x55 size) it took a lot of doing. and the brass hardened up pretty quickly. But, that was reducing the shoulder by .015". Once I got the right die and reduce it by .004" it isn't so bad. The brass itself seems as durable as anything I've shot lately. The loaded ammo both by Prvi and Wolf Gold is outstanding for accuracy.

    sandwarrior,
I should just skip the forum and email my questions straght to you- you seem to have an answer for almost every topic I have. [:D][;)] I'll have to raise some funds and I think I'll order 1000 rounds of Prvi 308 for $491 delivered. I'm going to be listing a couple of rifles soon. I'm doing some cleaning and shuffling some things around. The stock market will sure slow down that process because I've noticed that bidding has slowed down lately. After I sell a few things then I'm going to get a standard m1a. I really like the older ones with the gi parts but they are higher than a new one. So I think I'll go with a new one and take the limited lifetime warranty. I just want to get some ammo first, before it jumps up another 25%. I knew a big jump was comming with the new year but it went up more than I thought it would. Glad I'm reloading! The Prvi is cheaper than I could get all the components for. Once I have the brass, I'll reload that and save some cash.

Using less than full loads is a good idea. With the softer brass there is a possibility of jerking the rim off leaving the case in the chamber.

    flyingtorpedo,

I highly recommend not skipping the forum. There are some incredibly knowledgeable posters on here who can really steer you right with some tough questions. Both on a firearm you may want to take a direction on and with serious historical/value questions. I find that often I feel like a johnny on the spot at times but when it comes to real in depth questions you can find some good ones here. I do like to give my input when I've been down one road or another. Just understand that some of these guys here live the work they do. And have done that for many years.

Along the lines of reloading for your potential new M1A. I would suggest using a lot of lube on the cases when resizing. The cases will come out a little larger than from a bolt action and therefore you will be moving a little more metal when resizing. The harder you have to work the brass the harder it is going to become. Think of it as using a vertical force to accomplish a lateral movement. The more friction in the vertical, the more it wants to scrunch down(especially the surface) on the case wall. Make that slippery and you won't have half the problems.

As for the Prvi ammo, I was quite pleased with it.

    -good luck

I posted the same thing in the general forum but just in case you don't go there here it is again:

If you want some Prvi 308 http://www.wideners.com/ has it for $470 plus shipping per 1000. It's close to the bottom on their home page. They are getting low ~215 200 round packs left and they have been selling about 75-100 packs per week. Next cheapest price I've found on it is about $90 higher per 1000. Just a heads up for those who read this.

I got my order in today. The next stuff they have will be 10% higher.
