Military Surplus Powder

I saw some military surplus powder for 30 bucks for 8 pound jugs.It had numbers such as WCC 866.Is there any way to find out what commercial powder that would be equivilent to?Thanks

    I have quite a few lbs. of wc 852 military surplus powder.Used to load for 06 Garand. Anyone else use this powder? And what do you use it for.

    I don't like it. My batch is too slow. Much slower than H414, what it is advertised to approximate. 60 grains in a 30-06 with a 150 gr bullet only goes about 2200fps and leaves a lot of residue. With MY batch.

    Works well in the 7.62X54R and 8mm lebel though, oddly enough.

    For me, too slow in a Garand. Your mileage may vary.

    Thanks for the info! Bought a bunch a few yrs.ago from a friends wife after he passed away. Pretty sure we loaded 55 or 57 gr with
    a 168gr BTHP. Shot pretty well.

    I have just finished up the last of my 852 powder and wish I had more of it. It's burning rate is more like the H450 that anything else. With heavy bullets and heavy charges, it does great in the 30/06 and even the 8x57mm mauser. The problem is that it really needs a magnum primer and you have to get the pressure up to around 48000+ psi to get her to burn effeciently. One of the best loads I ever developed for the 8mm mauser was with this powder and a 196 grain FMJ cupernickle bullet. Right along with 852 in accuracy was a load with the same bullet using a small lot of pulldown turkish powder. Both produced fine accuracy with the REmington 185 grains JSP bullet also. I even developed a load for the 6.5x55mm and a 140 grain Speer bullet using 852 that was a very accurate load but it did burn just a tad dirty in the swede. Neither are available now.
