where 2 buy primers bullets powder - 45acp?

drobsdrobs Member Posts: 22,620 ✭✭✭✭
Just bought a set Lee 45acp dies for my Lynman All American that I won in a giveaway from board member k.stanonik. Deprimed and resized 700 some brass cases last night.

Anyone know of any deals on large pistol primers, powder, and / or bullets for 45acp?

Also what's good in powder scales?

You are going to shop around now that the price has gone up so bad. As to the scale, The Lee is good for the money. You also could shop NATZebay, if you would'nt mind dealing with them [:(!][V]

Check Midway for bullets/ Rainer plated work well and were around $200.00/1000 if you buy 2000 free shipping. Powder and primers are best bought localy, no hazmat fee.

Depends on the quantity you want.
I buy large amounts at one time because the savings is substantial.
Wideners and Powder Vally have the best prices.
Midway, Natchez etc also are OK and have deeper inventory but higher prices.

Not sure where to get a good deal on primers and powder as the hazmat fee is a killer. Here is a really nice scale though. Great seller by the way.[;)][:D]

    I've heard he's good!

What do you all recommend as far as powder for 45acp?

I'm brand new to reloading. Only pre-conceived notion I have is from watching a buddy reload. He liked Unique since it filled the case higher making it harder to double charge.

I LOVE unique in the 45 ACP. Yes; it is a tad smokey, but it really performs well in duplicating ball ammo. TITEGROUP is gaining popularity as one of the new low charge weight clean burning powders.

Next you need to get into bullet casting [:D][:D][:D][:D]

Get a digital scale and a balance beam to keep them both checked out for accuracy.

I also have some Remington Gloden Saber .45 230g bullets for sell on GB.

I use Hodgdon Titegroup. It is always a couple of dollars or more cheaper than other powders and it meters great. It can be used for most pistol cartridges using midrange loads. It isn't a high velocity powder. I bought some on sale a few weeks ago at Bi-Mart
(A Pacific NW chain) for $10.97 a pound! Unique was $17.97 on sale. I personally shoot a 200g plated bullet for my .45 acp loads and use 5.2g of Titegroup. A pound goes 1340+ rounds per pound. Primers have been hard to come by and I usually pick them up at gunshows from Miwall but they have not had them in the last 5 shows I have been to. I usually use Exterme bullets (used to be West Coast) out of Carson City, NV and I pick them up when I am down there. Nice company to do business with. I have been using their bullets for at least 15 years. I can give you their number if you want.

If you are going to get just one scale, get a digital. The balance ones are a pain if you are weighing each charge. (They're ok to check a dispenser though). Frankford Arsenal (midway) makes one for like $25 if you want to stay cheap. Accurate to .3 grains. For a bit more, say $50, you can get them to .1 grains.

I had a lee balance scale. I like Lee stuff but the scale was junk.

Thanks all. I think I might try some tight group.

Digging around the basement, found I had 1500 9mm heads, 400 of which are HP. Too bad I got rid all my 9mm pistols. Also have a couple 1000 nickel 38 brass cases. Think I might try to sell it.

Midway always has good prices. To bad the Hazard fees will get ya out the door on the powder and primers.

The 10/10 RCBS is much better. I have a second used one I will sell to anyone that wants it for $75.00 shipped lower 48. Not trying to do a side deal just responding to the post that this one and only pprivate deal is better, IMO

Hello I don't know in what quantity you want to load and what use your loads are for but I have loaded 5000-10000 rounds of 45acp per year for the last 35+ years I used to buy in bulk 20,000 at a time and the company I got bullets from has gone out of business [xx(]However you can get 2000 or more in a usps Flat rate box I would look at lead bullets if you want to load target rounds 100,000 + between barrel replacements. [:)] I would also go to some gun shows and most times you can get better prices if you buy in bulk the great thing with large quantity is you can work up a good load and dont have to change anything with the same lot number of primers and powder is used . I like 8 pounds drums of Bulls-Eye powder because 4.5 Grains per load gives over 1550 loads per pound.[:D]

EDIT Hello b-mc To answer your question I build my own match pistols and do a lot of testing with the use of a ransom rest . I shoot NRA 2700 bullseye matches and am a member of the 2600 club . Part of our shooting is at 50 yards and the 10 ring is 3 inches with the X ring 1& 1/2 inch .to average 96+ you don't have a lot of room for error with your pistol or loads. I turn the center section of the slide stop pin down to .190 with other pins turned to .192 .195 .197 plus the normal full size of .200 I then fit the barrel lugs . I test once every 5000 rounds and for the most part replace with larger pin at each 25,000 rounds this gives me 4 upgrades for about 100,000 rounds before I replace barrel . Lead bullets are very easy on barrels but they will get to the point that my loads will not hold my 10 shot 2 inch group at 50 yards. from the ransom rest.

don't leave out Win231 powder, I love it in my 45ACP loads. I use 5grains of it with Rainier 230gr RN bullets for plinking.

Can't beat 3.9 of Bullseye behind a 200 grain semi wadcutter. You just have to clean your gun more often.[8D]

I have been shooting W231 for years in the .45acp and can find no reason to replace it. I have also tried Bullseye, unique and Green Dot with success. I have tried a lot of bullets and powders but keep going back to the old tried and true 200 gr. lead SWC and 5.2 grains W231. If it ain't broke, why spend money on it. My experience anyway.
