Has anyone tried one of these, just wondering the effects of heat on a target as close as 100 yds. Or any other comments would be great.

Mirage is a problem with any magnification. Environmental conditions (moisture, heat, wind, etc.) contribute to the lesser or greater amounts of mirage as do the conditions (grass, trees, slope, uneven terrain) of the range you are shooting on. The magnification only makes it worse. Higher magnification makes is much worse. However, many of the top shooter have used these scopes with success.
Learn to read the mirage just as you will learn to read the wind, especially since they go hand-in-hand. Working with an experience shooter will save you time and aggravation as I stated in your other post.
I quit using Leupolds when this series of scopes was brought out. They are heavy and I like other scopes much better for quality and cost reasons. The best thing Leupold has going for them is their guarantee, if that's still in effect, I haven't looked.
Best.
