Remington 870 loads

pphillipspphillips Member Posts: 186 ✭✭✭
I have a Remington 870 with the rifled barrel. I was told that the only suitable loads for the gun are Saboted. Does it harm the gun to use a few rifled slugs and or shot shells as the need arises?
I am talking about less than 50 rounds per year.

Thanks

Phil

It might suprise you the how accurate the rifled slugs will be. The shot will not hurt the barrel, but will spread real quick with the spin of the rifling.

The rifled shotgun barrel will stabilize both saboted slugs and regular slugs, you will just get more leading from non-saboted.

As DCS said, shooting shot from a rifled barrel will seriously limit the range since the shot pattern will open very quickly after leaving the barrel due to the spin imparted by the rifling.
