My uncle want to enter his .257 in a match with cast bullets.
He would like to know if there is any specific bullet grain/ mould that the .257 likes more than another.
Any data would be nice.
Thanks
Travis

I'll check my old Lyman and Phil Sharpe books tonight. In general the 2 "Bob's" that I've owned have tended to be a bit choosy about what they like. Great shooters with the right loads but unlike my .270, .308 and .222 that will eat almost anything. Haven't worked with cast bullets myself, but that may be next on the the list, so I'll be interested in what others have to offer as well. Stay tuned.
Here's what I've been able to dig up, though as I mentionned earlier I haven't loaded cast with my .257's.....yet.
Phil Sharpe lists loads for an 87 grain cast bullet using both 4064 and 3031.
More helpful was Lyman's 46th Edition (1982)
Velocities for 89 grain case bullets ranged from a low of 1,500 fps to a high of 2,000.
Pressures listed ran from 8,000 CUP to 19,200 CUP
Powders included SR-4759, IMR 4227 and 4198, RX7, W-W 748 and H-335.
Charge weights ranged from 14 (starting load for 4759 @ 1,584 fps) to 24.5 (Max. load listed for 748 = 1,959 fps.)
Hope this helps. Email if you have questions from this source.
