44-40 reloading

can i load .430 diemeter 180gr jacketed sp in a 44-40 rifle. i know it generally calls for a .427 diameter. does anyone else reload 44-40. the rifle is a cimmaron yellowboy.

    I would load lead bullets then it would not be as hard on the barrel . also a modern made REPRO barrel may just be set up for .429 bullets. you need to slug the bore.

    thanks perry but would it be safe to do that like i said is my question, im asking for another guy and he wants to you these for deer hunting but we arent sure of the safety of this bullet.

    If the loaded round will chamber then a lead bullet is ok to use even if it is up to .003-.004 over size. I would not do this with Jacketed bullets however a Lead bullet makes a very good deer cartridge.
