Reloader 15 Gunpowder help!!

mstrblastermstrblaster Member Posts: 249 ✭✭✭
Howdy all!
I bought several pounds of Reloader 15 on sale. The dealer didn't have any loading material on it. I have e-mailed the company and looked on their website with no luck yet.
I am loading 30-06 with 165 Gr Nosler ballistic tips. Can any one help me with where to start with the powder load?

Many Thanks
To my mind it is wholly irresponsible to go out into the world incapable of preventing violence, injury, crime, and death. How feeble is the mindset to accept defenselessness, how cheap, how cowardly, how pathetic. Ted Nugent.

you are kind of s o l on rl 19 and 165 ball. tips

For 150 Ballistic tips with RL19 Nosler 6 shows:

Starting load of 57.5 and a max load of 61.5

I would not know how much to reduce this to get to a safe starting point with the heavier bullet

If your lucky JustC,Nonosense or Sandwarrior will be along directly to help out

Hornady sez Max load for 30-06 with RL-15 and 165-168 bullet is 50 gr., yielding 2800 fps. 46.8 gr listed as 2600 fps. Something near that may be a place to start.

    mstrblaster,

Reloader 15 is a bit fast for the 30-06 case for best results.

However, it is fast enough to use in gas operated semi-autos.* It has the burn speed of about the same as 4895 that was used in loading the WWII 30-06 used in the Garands. It does get more pressure though, as Nitro-glycerin is added to it. If you were loading for a Garand using 150 gr. bullets it would probably be prudent to keep your loads around 2750.

For loading a bolt action gun follow the manual and standard inpection procedures all the way up to as high as you don't see any pressure signs.

RE-15 is also and excellent powder to use in mid-size cases such as the Savage 300, 22-250, 250-3000, and the .308(also .308 based cases). So, down the road when you get a hankering to get into another gun you can consider that as well.

    * -I learned that here on this forum...and have since put that information to good use.

What's safe in my rifle(s), may not be safe in your rifle. So work up your load carefully.

In my 30-06 that I hunt with, I'm currently using RL-15 @ 50.5 grains under a 150gr Barnes TSX for my hunting load.

    In a different 30-06, 52 grains of RL-15 under a 155gr Scenar averaged 3102 fps in 65* temp.

Below is from Quick Load. I set coal @ 3.30", 24" barrel, and temperature @ 72*. This is not reload data, but it gives you an idea of where to start.
    Cartridge : .30-06 Spring.
    Bullet : .308, 165, Nosler BalTip 30165
    Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.300 inch or 83.81 mm
Barrel Length : 24.0 inch or 609.6 mm
