Hey folks,

I inherited a couple Dillon Presses from my father in law when he died. I have never reloaded in my life. I can look at these things all day, and still can't figure out if all the parts are there. Anyway, can anybody suggest a book, or site to look at to get me started?

Thanks,

Crazyhorse

went out to day to try out some load that i loaded up an came home just a little upset. im working on a pro hunter 25-06 with a 26 inch barrel tring to shoot 100 grain barnes triple shocks. i started out with 57.5 grains of magpro an went up to the max an what barnes says is the best load of 60.5. but nothing even came close to shooting with factory ammo. what does everyone think i havent had this problem on none of my other loads but this is my first barnes load an i have another rifle that im goin to try them in being 30-378 weatherby but im hoping that they shoot better than this.well hope some one can save my sanity because im liking what ive seen here today. well thanks for everyones help on this

Probably isn't the Barnes bullets I have always gotten good results with barnes

You may want to try some different powder and also try different seating depths I have also gained and lost accuracy with a primer change

There is a load that will give you great results with your bullet choice you just have to find it. Load development is half the fun[:D]

check your twist rate. The barnes bullets are longer than comparable weighted bullets since they are solid copper rather than copper over lead. The lead core weighs more, so the bearing surface is shorter on lead core bullets compared to solid copper bullets.

Barnes also states a distance from the lands that differs from the accepted distance with lead core bullets.

Is your complaint with velocity or group size?

250fps is a lot of discrepancy. Bump up your powder charge and watch for pressure signs as you go. If that doeasn't do it,..then we will have to look elsewhere.

Had same problem with .243 and original X bullets. Length of bullets, short throat, long uninterupted bearing surface all caused pressure problems and irractic groups. Triple shocks work better but I think longer throat would fix problem on mine. I have several other rifles and they work great.

Barnes says to seat bullets at least .100" from the rifleing . I tried loading some MRXs in .30-378 and the results were not good, no accuracy at all. Weatherby rifles have freebore that needs to be factored into the equation . We didn't get too far along developing a load with these bullets, he decided at $2.00 per bullet he couldn't afford to work on it .
