Shotshell ?? Aluminum bases

DONDALINGERDONDALINGER Member Posts: 1,541 ✭✭✭
I have a boatload of used Federal hulls that have the aluminum bases instead of brass.

Are these OK to reload?

I deprimed and reprimed and could push in a new primer with just finger pressure.

Is this safe?

Any info/advice much appreciated. Regards, Don

Those aluminum base shells should pose no problem to reload at all.
Many shells have primer pockets that are fairly loose. Try using
CCI primers, they tend to run a little larger than the rest.

Try them with a magnet. I believe you will find they are steel and not aluminum. In any event, yes you can reload these. If used many times the steel will resize, but just a little harder to pull the handle.

I've reloaded thousands with Winchester, CCI, and Remington primers and they always were very snug. I don't think I would use them if there's a concern about the primer falling out.

    Best of luck.
