I need a recomendation for a 150 gr bullet to expand reliably at 300 Savage velocities on whitetail deer

Just about all of them should be OK. Shot placement is more critical than the label on the bullet. If you are concerned about bone use a Nosler partition, every moose and caribou I ever shot with them got dead. Another great bullet is Barnes, but in my rifles the accuracy was not as good.

As long as you stick to a flat based bullet from Sierra, Barnes, Nosler or even Speer you will be fine for killing deer. The most expensive bullets are probably not going to do any better for you than a middle of the road hunting bullet.

I use them because they have proven to be more accurate in my rifles.

Ditto; flat based bullets have proven to be more accurate in all of my rifles except a 2-groove Springfield; it likes 150 SMK's.

For hunting purposes the boat tail is superfluous to the job. It really only helps bullet flight at extreme ranges, far beyond what we would shoot a deer with a 300 Savage.

150 Hornady Sp will be great, also probably the Speer or Sierra as well. Cheap and very effective. I like the SSt by Hornady more, possibly a little quicker expansion, but no trouble with coming apart. Also when hunting and you do a lot of loading and unloading your rifle, the tip doesn't get deformed, doesn't seem to affect hunting accuracy but it always bothered me.

I feel the priemium bullets are way overkill for whitetail deer. I'd like to know how your Savage shots. I think I might take out my dad's 99 in 300 Sav. Let us know the load you work up.
